My favourite five
Food: Sadly, anything that’s high in fat!
TV Show: So many to choose from, off the top of my head: Alan Partridge, Twin Peaks, Archer, Peep Show, Fawlty Towers, The Office, The Wire, old school Simpsons and Bojack Horseman.
Film: I have a mild obsession for Stanley Kubrick films, so any of those. Others I can’t miss off a list would be: Taxi Driver, The Seventh Seal, Elephant Man, Magnolia, Edward Scissorhands, The Fountain (this list could go on forever but I’ll stop now).
Song: You can’t simply pin-point one. Any of these at any given time: These Times Are A-Changing – Bob Dylan, Father & Son – Cat Stevens, All You Need Is Love – The Beatles, Tracks of my Tears – Smoky Robinson, Paint it Black – Rolling Stones, Robbers – 1975, Latch – Sam Smith, Same Love – Macklemore, Holocene – Bon Ivor and Calm Down Dearest – Jamie T.
Childhood memory: Beating Software Support Manager, Charlie Grant, at everything we did as kids. You name it, football, tennis, Fifa, Championship Manager, Brian Lara Cricket, we could be here all day ;)
Can you tell us about your job role?
Among other things, I’m mainly responsible for all the marketing needs for IT Solutions and our Cyber Security division, CyberGuard. So, there’s always a million and one things to do, but the variety keeps it all entertaining.
What is your average day like?
I’m going to try not to inadvertently say, “every day is different”. In one word: busy!
What is your career background?
I never initially thought about a career in marketing and studied Video Production and Film Studies at University. I soon realised I enjoyed writing, whether it was scripts, blogs, web content or general articles. After Uni I went travelling and was lucky enough to have some great jobs in Australia. When I returned to the UK I needed a job to pay off my travel debts and a friend told me about OGL. I initially applied for a temporary job and was introduced to the world of marketing which I thought suited my personality and career ambitions.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I think we work well together in the Marketing Department because we trust one another and communicate a lot. I think it’s important for any department to use these values, not only to do your job well but to enjoy what you do too.
How do you like to spend your time away from the office?
Well I normally start the weekend telling myself that I’ve got to go to the gym at some point, but this rarely happens, and I’ll normally find myself talking rubbish to the guys in the local chippy after a few pints. I must be getting older though, because I’m starting to enjoy a Netflix night in with a takeaway.
