A huge congratulations to Lee Reece who is the latest member of staff to join the Long Service Club having recently celebrated his 20th anniversary at OGL. Lee was presented with an Amazon eVoucher, engraved glass trophy and meal for two from Neil Morris on behalf of all the Directors.
Lee looks back on the last 20 years:
“I joined in 2001 as part of the original Sales Academy Programme ran by Jan Walsh. Having previously worked at a local brickyard I felt it was time for a career change and looked for a solid foundation to build a successful career. I saw an advert in the local Kidderminster Shuttle and decided to apply for the Sales Academy.
“My career started by cold calling accountants from the yellow pages as we didn’t have the internet back then. I progressed swiftly into field sales, door knocking and playing the numbers game in order to book my own appointments, and travelling to South Wales 3 times a week on appointments and drumming up new business.
“I moved into a Manager/Sales Hybrid role after 6 years with Mr Martyn Clews assisting me in booking my meetings back then. Another 5 years on and I successfully built a New Business team of 20 staff, breaking 108 sales in my final year netting £1.3 million in net new GP figures.
“Following this, I was honoured to be given the System Sales Manager role working with our most senior sales professionals. Part of my role here was to bring sales people through the tough sales environment which I thoroughly enjoyed and all have gone on to be a real success within OGL. Just over a year ago I returned to the New Business Technical Sales team where my objective is to build an elite sales team to break accounts in the Middle Market Sector and assist in moving OGL forward and achieving our growth plans in years to come.
“My favourite aspect of the job is being part of something bigger. Training and mentoring salespeople is where I get my buzz from; seeing them grow in confidence, experience and becoming a success really does make the pressures sustained within the sales environment worthwhile!”
Jan Walsh, Lee’s manager, congratulates him on his 20 years at OGL:
“Lee applied to OGL as a Sales Apprentice to join the Sales Apprentice Scheme having no sales experience and coming from a completely different industry. Lee was a very determined young man at interview stage and, having secured a role at OGL, set about becoming the Top Apprentice. Lee, to this day, is the only person to have ever achieved 100% throughout his 2 week Sales Training course and 100% for his final exam. An incredible feat! An indication again of Lee’s determination.
“Since then, Lee went on to become a very successful New Business salesperson before taking the reins of the New Business team. Lee then moved to Systems Sales heading up the Systems Sales team, before now focusing on the Technical side of the business.
“Over the years Lee has solely focused on the New Business side of the business where there are predominantly more “No’s” than “Yeses”. Testament again to Lee’s determination.
