OGL’s hosted desktop service delivers future-proof framework for growing PR agency
In January 2016, Managing Director Sarah Kent completed a successful management buy-out of Whistle PR from the Emerge Group. This opened up a great opportunity for them to review Whistle PR’s own specific IT needs and source a partner who could work with them to deliver an IT infrastructure that would help them take their business forward.
OGL was a clear choice for Whistle PR as not only is OGL Midlands-based but has good reputation in the industry which is important to them. Sarah met with the OGL team and was confident that they understood their business and sector and would provide them with the right advice. Almost one year on, we caught up with Sarah to see how they were getting on and the impact that they have realised since moving to OGL’s hosted desktop service.
What were the specific challenges that you wanted OGL to help with?
“The key things for us were remote access, back-up and security and having a system that would be able to meet the needs of our growing business. The OGL team took time to understand the specific needs of our business and recommended hosted desktops. It meant that everyone could access our system anywhere and at any time which is really important for us as the team are on the road a lot, plus we promote flexible working and wanted a system which made this easier.
Going it alone post-MBO meant that we needed full security back-up and automatic software updates. We also wanted to work with a partner who could advise on hardware and other issues which is expertise that we had access to previously from the group.”
How has working with OGL impacted your business?
“Our IT system is an essential part of our business. We simply can’t operate without effective and reliable IT support. We work in a fast-paced industry where communication and the ability to respond at a moment’s notice is crucial.
OGL’s hosted desktop service enables our teams to access our system whenever and wherever they need to. This makes it much easier to work when out and about with clients or from home. Work-life balance is really important to Whistle and the fact that people no longer need to be in the office all the time is key to this. It also makes us much more efficient and able to respond quickly to clients.
It’s peace of mind too that data back-up and security is taken care of. We’ve effectively future-proofed the business.”
“The change to hosted desktops was very straightforward and the team were always on hand to tackle any issues that arose.”
What are your future plans for the business and what role does IT play?
“We have ambitious growth plans over the next few years and IT will play an important role in that. Our new infrastructure gives us complete flexibility to scale up our requirements as and when we need it, which means we can be very agile in our growth. It has definitely given us the right framework for the business’ plans moving forward.”
“We would definitely recommend OGL to other marketing businesses as they’re a reliable company with experienced and helpful people who act as an extension of our team. They also understand the marketing sector so can tailor solutions to meet our specific requirements.”
