£100,000 raised for good causes in the last three years
We’ve had another successful year of fundraising here at OGL, having raised almost £30,000 for over 50 charities and local community organisations during 2016.
Together with similar sums raised in 2015 and 2014, we have now raised just shy of £100,000 over the past three years. We’ve helped all kinds of organisations – many close to our employees’ or customers’ hearts. Activities to raise the money have included dress down days, abseiling, boat races, football matches, bake-offs, sky dives and mud runs. We’ve also sponsored numerous great local charities and events such as art festivals, dog days and music concerts.
For the last two years, one of our main beneficiaries has been Winston’s Wish, a charity that offers support for child bereavement. We’ve donated £9,000 to them alone.
This year, our staff have chosen Cannock-based organisation, Newlife Charity for Disabled Children as a key recipient of our fund raising. Newlife is a charity that helps disabled children and is the UK’s largest charity funder of specialist disability equipment. They also run the UK’s only emergency service for terminally ill children. We have lots of events planned for 2017 to raise them lots of money, including an Easter bake sale, Gung Ho (an inflatable assault course!), car wash day, quiz night and running the Birmingham marathon. Our staff are certainly going to be active this year, and all in the name of a superb cause.
Our Marketing Manager, Cindy Phillips, said: “It’s been great having such a worthy organisation as Winston’s Wish for our chosen charity and we were delighted to donate in the region of £9,000 to them. However, after a recent vote, staff felt that it was time to look into helping other worthwhile charities and I’m really happy we have this opportunity to help Newlife. There’s a packed schedule of activities ahead so I’m sure Newlife will be in line for some sizeable donations from OGL and our staff in the near future.”
