Today we're introducing new features that will streamline your pricing, quoting and shipping - this includes new parameters, displaying weights on main screens and new print tags.
Where fields previously existed on item and header records for unit weight, line weight, and total weight, equivalent fields have been added for unit packed weight, line packed weight, and total packed weight. This applies to the files for quotations, sales orders, return orders, invoices, and commercial invoices.
N.B. When initially setting the new packed weight fields, if no packed weight has been recorded for a product, the packed weight fields will be set to the same values as the equivalent weight fields.
new ‘PkWt?’ checkbox has been added to the Despatch section of the ‘Alloc/Desp’ screen in the ‘Sales Order Parameters’ program.
The new checkbox appears to the right of the controls that begin with the ‘ConfCrg?’ and ‘Carrier?’ checkboxes, and will only be enabled if carrier facilities are in use.
If the new parameter is ticked, it means that the weights recorded against delivery charges in the ‘Set Up Delivery Methods’ program are deemed to be packed weights, that packed weights (as opposed to unpacked weights, as previously) will be confirmed in programs such as ‘Despatch Sales Orders’, and that packed weights will be displayed in preference to unpacked weights where there is insufficient on the screen to show both weights.
In those quotation, sales order processing, return order processing, and invoicing programs that display information on the main screen in the form of a header area, a multi-line table showing details of items, and one or more single-line tables showing additional information for a single item, the weight displayed will depend on the setting of the new parameter, described above.
If the new parameter is not ticked (i.e. as previously, unpacked weights are to be confirmed on despatch), the labels for textboxes and table cells will show ‘Weight’ and the values shown will be for unpacked weights. If the new parameter is ticked (i.e. packed weights are to be confirmed on despatch), the labels will be changed to ‘Pk Wght’ and the values shown will be for packed weights.
In the Quotation Entry, Sales Order Entry, and Return Order Entry programs, when tab windows are selected to show details of items in tabular form, the ‘Wghts’ window will show unit weights, line weights, unit packed weights, and line packed weights.
In programs that include a ‘Value’ option to display quotation/order/invoice total values, the pop-up window that is used to display the total values will include a textbox that will show whichever total weight is not shown in the header area of the main screen (i.e. if the main window shows ‘Pk Wght’, the pop-up window will show ‘Weight’, and vice versa).
When a kit item that does not have a variable BOM is entered on a sales order, the weight and packed weight of the kit item will be picked up from the equivalent fields in the stock record for the kit. When a kit item is entered with a variable BOM, and if the flag for manual/calculated weights in the stock record for the kit (as shown in the ‘Stock Component List’ program) is set to ‘Calculated’, the weight for the kit item will be calculated from the weights of the components in the variable BOM, and if the ‘Calc Packed Wt?’ stock parameter is ticked, the packed weight for the kit item will be calculated from the packed weights of the components in the variable BOM (otherwise the weight and/or packed weight will be picked up from the stock record for the kit).
When an order item is entered for a manufactured product, and if the order item is linked to a works order, and if the flag for manual/calculated weights in the stock record for the manufactured product (as shown in the ‘Stock Component List’ program) is set to ‘Calculated’, the weight for the order item will be calculated from the weights of the components in the works order, and if the ‘Calc Packed Wt?’ stock parameter is ticked, the packed weight for the order item will be calculated from the packed weights of the components in the works order (otherwise the weight and/or packed weight will be picked up from the stock record for the manufactured product).
For those delivery methods that have charges automatically calculated by weight, as defined in the ‘Set Up Delivery Methods’ program, if the new parameter described above is ticked to indicate that packed weights are to be confirmed on despatch, the threshold weights entered and shown in the Charges section of the screen are deemed to be packed weights. If the new parameter is not ticked, the threshold weights are deemed to be unpacked weights.
In programs where carriage charges are automatically calculated, the consignment weight used for the calculation will depend on the setting of the new parameter. If the parameter is ticked, total packed weight will be used. If it is not ticked, total unpacked weight will be used, as before.
If the new parameter is ticked to indicate packed weights are to be confirmed on despatch, the line weight and total weight textboxes that appear in pop-up windows while confirming despatch of sales orders and receipt of return orders will have labels such as ‘Line Pk Wght’, and will show packed weight values. If the new parameter is not ticked, the textbox labels will be ‘Line Weight’ and the values shown will be unpacked weights, as before.
The following print tags are now available for inclusion on various documents:
These new tags mirror the existing tags for the equivalent unpacked weight fields (ITEMWEIGHT, LINEWEIGHT, TOTWEIGHT). The new tags can be included in the following documents:
