Westbridge Food Group an early adopter of OGL’s cloud services
“The company’s IT consisted of three PCs in 1998 when we launched,” explained Westbridge’s Trading Manager, Colin Mann. “It went from there and we built the system up as we went along. It became untidy as a result, but moving to our new premises in March 2011 gave us the chance to restructure and improve our IT.”
At the point OGL’s discussions with Westbridge began, the company had around 115 employees based in offices throughout England, China, Brazil, Poland, Holland and France and IT was a critical part of the business’s infrastructure.
Moving the hosting of the company’s email to OGL’s state of the art data centre means there is now no physical hardware at any of Westbridge’s offices. For Westbridge this means the cost and time of server maintenance and updates is gone and in its place is peace of mind that it is all being handled expertly by OGL in tier-IV level facilities.
“Email is our main form of communication and therefore uptime of it is of great importance,” said Colin. “We could lose a lot of money if email was down but OGL’s service gives us an excellent level of reliability.”
The second element of Westbridge’s bespoke cloud package from OGL was SharePoint, a collaboration tool that allows rapid and easy sharing of files and applications from any internet access point with any access-granted user.
“SharePoint has provided us with two main benefits,” says Colin. “It has allowed us to increase the accuracy and control of information flow by developing and implementing group-based controls and workflow processes, which have significantly reduced the potential for human error.
“Secondly, it has increased business efficiency; formerly, the workflow process to final sign-off was time consuming, but using the SharePoint-developed workflow has significantly increased the speed of the process.”
The final cloud solution adopted by Westbridge was cloud backup. “It’s insurance for something that may never happen, but if it did it would be catastrophic to our business,” affirms Colin. “Now, if we did suffer a disaster or major power outage we can be back up and running in a matter of hours with relatively minor disruption to our business.”
As a major supplier to some of the world’s biggest names in restaurants and pre-prepared food including KFC, Westbridge is now able to reassure its customers, should an adverse situation occur.
“It’s now been more than five years since we contracted with OGL and during that time the IT support has been excellent and any issues encountered have been identified and resolved swiftly. Over that time, OGL has grown to really understand our business and ensure our IT systems are allowing us to conduct our business efficiently and seamlessly.”
Continued Colin, “My advice is that you want an IT provider who you know is there in the background discreetly keeping your IT going with little interruption. Westbridge Foods has many suppliers and we know we have found a quality IT partner because if a problem does develop, it is rectified quickly. With OGL we’ve faced a couple of issues but they’ve handled them very well each time.”
