OGL staff dress down in support of suicide prevention charity

As part of their charity dress-down days, OGL's staff raised £220 for October's charity, PAPYRUS.

November 4, 2019

As part of our pledge to support charitable causes, staff at OGL are participating in a series of dress down days throughout 2019. Each month, employees will raise money for a different nominated charity.

October's dress down day raised over 220 in support of PAPYRUS, a UK-based charity that focuses on preventing suicide among young people. PAPYRUS was nominated as our charity of the month by Pete Rollason, our Senior Credit Control Manager.

"I have nominated PAPYRUS as it's a charity focused on preventing suicide in young people. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people in the UK under the age of 35", said Pete.

"On a personal note, I've seen the devastating effect teenage suicide can have on the family and friends of those who take their own lives. One of my closest and best friends has recently lost his 19-year-old son. He was clever, articulate, a gifted musician and a wonderful, kind young person. He had his whole life ahead of him. He was in his second year at university and appeared happy to those closest to him. Whilst he was known to have suffered from some anxiety, nobody close to him could have foreseen the tragic circumstances which led to him taking his own life.

"PAPYRUS work hard to break the stigma of mental health, providing a confidential helpline, engaging with communities and volunteers in suicide prevention projects."

  • PAPYRUS believes that many young suicides are preventable
  • PAPYRUS believes that no young person should suffer alone with thoughts or feelings of hopelessness
  • PAPYRUS believes that no one should have to go through the heartbreak of losing a loved one to suicide
  • PAPYRUS believes that everyone can play a role in preventing young suicide
