Simon Birch Celebrates 15 Years | OGL Group

A huge congratulations to Simon Birch who recently celebrated 15 years at OGL.

Simon looks back on the last 15 years:

“I started at OGL as a Junior Programmer. After a few years an opportunity arose in Support for a 6 month placement and upon completing this I was offered a permanent role on Support which led to my current position as a 3rd Line Application Support Consultant.

“Probably the most complicated call I had on Support was a data cleanse issue. The customer had stored some sensitive information in plain text within the system that should have been encrypted at best or not stored at all. They had a hard time removing it ahead of a planned inspection and needed to bring in third-parties too in order to identify which files the data resided in and its exact location within the files. As the third-party only had an offset from the start of the file and no key for the record I had to copy the files in a Hex editor and check the records individually to work out what the key should be and then manually remove the data. It was something that took a few weeks to resolve all in all. The customer was happy that the data was cleansed and they passed the inspection that they were due to fail so all was good in the end."
